How can we make PE more engaging and meaningful for students? How do we ensure that physical education isn’t just about movement but about learning?

In this keynote, Gareth Long and Dr Kelly Parry, passionate educators in Health and Physical Education, will explore how Quality Physical Education (QPE) principles can transform teaching practice. This session will provide early-career PDHPE teachers with evidence-based strategies to enhance student engagement, deepen learning, and promote lifelong physical activity.

Gareth and Kelly will discuss how realism, repetition, and empowerment—three key elements of effective game design—can reinforce learning and skill development. By integrating these principles, teachers can create interventions that ensure physical education is fundamental to the acquisition of movement skills and concepts, enabling students to participate in a range of physical activities—confidently, competently, and creatively. Attendees will leave with practical tools to shape dynamic learning environments where every student can thrive.
